Lemon and honey is such a perfect combination, and in the heat of the summer lemon is so refreshing.
I used a plain runny honey, however if you favour honey that is more floral then the flavour will be much more enhanced. Continue reading “Honey and Lemon Scones”

A perfect accompaniment to Cheese is Marmite. I realise you either love marmite or hate it. To be honest I do have to be in the mood for marmite, however the addition of marmite to these cheese scones really lifts the flavour. So if you are a marmite hater or just a mild dis-liker I do recommend giving them ago.
I have used just one teaspoon of marmite in these scones, however if you are a real marmite adorer please feel free to add more! Continue reading “Cheese and Marmite Scones”

Sometimes it is just nice to have a savoury scone. Don’t get me wrong I love a sweet scone and there is nothing better on a lazy afternoon then tea and scones, but occasionally it’s nice to go savoury. Continue reading “Cheese Scones”

My Dad’s favourite dessert is Black Forest Gateaux, however not something I relish making in the summer. We all like a scone so these black forest scones are an excellent compromise. Continue reading “Black Forest Scones”

I do like a Bakewell Tart and I do like a scone, so I decided to combine the two and make Bakewell Scones. I must say it was a decision that has proved very popular. Continue reading “Bakewell Scones”

With Elderflowers in season there is no better time to make your own refreshing drink.
This cordial is so very easy to make you will wonder why you ever bought it.
It does need to infuse over night for the full flavours to develop, so bear this in mind when you make it and start making it a day ahead of when you would like to drink it. Continue reading “Elderflower and Lemon Cordial”

All of my scones start with my Great Nanny’s recipe, she never liked the taste of too much baking powder, which some scone recipes can have, so, like her I use an alternative raising agent – a mixture of cream of tartar and bicarbonate of soda.
Once this basic scone mix has been mastered and is to your liking then you can add different flavours and fruits. Continue reading “Scones”

I love strawberries and they are at their best during the British summer. I do sometimes get a little carried away and buy more then we can eat in a day. Unfortunately strawberries really need to be eaten within a day or two of picking before they go a little soft. This is the time I make strawberry crumbles. I make this as a tray bake and are so moreish it’s difficult to only eat one square! Continue reading “Strawberry Crumbles”

I love the zing of a lemon drizzle cake that combined with the sweetness of the blueberries makes this cake extremely popular.
I have substituted some of the sugar for honey in this recipe, it just adds another dimension to the cake. If you don’t have honey then just use caster sugar instead, or if you feel you would like more honey flavor then try adding more honey, but don’t forget to take out an equal quantity of sugar.
